Standard Data Wiping (NIST 800-88)
Every drive that comes back to Skorppio gets wiped to NIST 800-88 standards — no exceptions. If your compliance requirements go further, DoD-standard wipe and physical drive destruction are available at additional cost. Back up your data before you ship anything back, because once we receive it, everything on those drives is gone.
Every drive in every returned system is wiped in accordance with NIST Special Publication 800-88 guidelines for media sanitization. This is performed as a standard part of every equipment return at no additional cost.
Enhanced Destruction Options
For organizations with stricter data security requirements, Skorppio offers additional destruction options at the customer's cost:
DoD-standard wipe — A Department of Defense–compliant overwrite procedure for customers who require wipe verification beyond NIST 800-88.
Physical drive destruction — Physical destruction of storage drives for media that must be rendered permanently unrecoverable. Certain drives (such as NVMe or high-value drives) may not be eligible for physical destruction due to replacement cost.
Customer-Supplied Drives
Customers may supply their own storage drives for use during the rental period. Customer-supplied drives are returned by mail at the end of the rental.
Customers are not permitted to install, remove, or modify any other internal hardware components.
Certificate of Data Destruction
A certificate of data destruction is available at an additional cost. If your organization requires documented proof of data sanitization for compliance or audit purposes, request this service when coordinating your equipment return.
Chain of Custody
Skorppio maintains chain-of-custody documentation for all equipment. From the time hardware leaves Skorppio's facility to the time it is returned and processed, custody and handling are tracked and documented.
Your Responsibility Before Returning
Back up all data before returning your equipment. Once received by Skorppio, all data on the system is permanently erased. Skorppio is not responsible for any data remaining on returned equipment.
